This is the fourth edition of Baltic Metropolises Innovation Strategy project E-news
Aiming at more active involvement of St.Petersburg into BaltMet Inno project and to discuss further cooperation possibilities, the BaltMet Inno project team, experts and city officials headed for St. Petersburg where the project and steering committee meeting was held on June 13-15.
On the first day, WP1 and WP5 Workshop took place, where the status of WP1 report on complementary innovation strategy framework and status of Local Innovation Strategy Drafts (presented by Riga and Tallinn) were discussed.
On the morning of 14th of June, participants of this meeting were heartily welcomed by Chairman of the Commitee for External Relations of St.Petersburg Mr.Alexander Prohorenko, as well as by vice-chairman of Riga City Council and BaltMet Network Chairman Almers Ludviks and the Head of Lord Mayor's Office of City of Helsinki Mr.Matti Ollinkari. Meeting continued with presentation of Innovation Support Measures in St. Petersburg- St. Petersburg Innovation Programmes presented by Mr.Sergey Fiveyski, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Economic Development of St. Petersburg. Potential business sectors in St.Petersburg, examples of successful cooperation with St. Petersburg and potential fields of cooperation among St. Petersburg and other Baltic Metropolises were considered. Work continued with BaltMet Inno workshop and discussions about cooperation in cluster development activities and transfer of tools and instruments, and intensified cooperation in the promotion of knowledge based entrepreneurship in Baltic Metropoles.
On the last day, participants of meeting visited St.Petersburg Business Incubator and "Nauchnije pribori".
Further events: Transnational workshop "Metropolitan Marketing in the Baltic Sea Region- Current Outlook, Best Practices, Future Visions", will take place in Riga, Latvia, from 13-14 September. Workshop is organized in the framework of international conference "Baltic Dynamics 2007- International Partnership for Innovation".
Within the workshop, participants will share their experience and initiatives on innovation based city marketing strategies and policies and discuss further actions for marketing Baltic Metropoles and overall Baltic Sea Region. Participants of the workshop will have opportunity to take part in the conference "Baltic Dynamics 2007" and supporting events.
